Caterina Sforza was born in 1463 into a dynasty of condottieri and became Countess of Forlì and Lady of Imola, ruling first with her husband Girolamo Riario, then as regent for their son Ottaviano Riario. From early on she acted with bold and impetuous force to protect her lands from usurpers and navigate political intrigue, her fearless character giving her the name La Tigre.
