Italian actor, lawyer, professional swimmer and water polo player
The Italian who turned swimming medals and a law degree into a second career as a slow-moving, hard-punching screen presence — mostly in spaghetti Westerns where the fists mattered more than the guns.
Born Carlo Pedersoli in 1929, he first made his name in the pool: he swam for Italy at two Summer Olympics and competed in water polo before earning a law degree and registering patents. The pivot came when he stepped in front of cameras and found his groove in action-comedies and Westerns, often alongside Terence Hill — the two made 18 films together, a partnership that defined his screen life. Off set he flew commercial jets and helicopters, and poured money into children's charities, including a scholarship fund under his own name. He died in June 2016.
