Biography

About

Otto Franz Joseph Karl Ludwig Maria was born 21 April 1865, second son of Archduke Karl Ludwig and Princess Maria Annunziata of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. His father was the younger brother of Emperor Franz Joseph I, placing Otto in the imperial constellation but not its center. He married and fathered Charles, who would become Charles I of Austria. Otto died 1 November 1906, eleven years before his son inherited a throne already cracking under the weight of war and modernity.
