Alexander Volkanovski was born 29 September 1988 and came up through Australian Fighting Championship before a detour into professional boxing in 2015. He entered the UFC and climbed to featherweight champion, becoming the first Australian-born fighter to hold a UFC title. Between 2022 and 2023 he held the promotion's top pound-for-pound ranking across two separate reigns and took Fighter of the Year at the 2022 World MMA Awards. He matched José Aldo's record for most featherweight title victories in UFC history, won the belt at 36 - the oldest in the division's history - and defended it at 37. As of 16 June 2026 he sits #2 in the men's pound-for-pound rankings, widely considered one of the greatest featherweights ever to step in.
