Cody Garrett Runnels Rhodes was born June 30, 1985, son of Dusty Rhodes and half-brother of Dustin Rhodes, and won two Georgia state high-school wrestling titles before signing with WWE in 2006. He spent a decade there collecting tag-team gold and the Intercontinental strap twice, cycling through gimmicks including Stardust, a melodramatic echo of his brother's Goldust persona, before walking out in 2016. From 2016 to 2019 he worked the independent circuit and promotions like NJPW, ROH, and TNA under the name Cody, holding the ROH World Championship, the IWGP United States title, and the NWA World's Heavyweight Championship, which he won at All In in 2018, an independently promoted show with the Jacksons that sold over 10,000 tickets and sparked the creation of All Elite Wrestling. He co-founded AEW in early 2019, served as executive vice president, and became the inaugural three-time AEW TNT Champion before returning to WWE in April 2022, where he has since won back-to-back Royal Rumbles in 2023 and 2024, the WWE Championship three times, the inaugural Crown Jewel Championship in 2024, and King of the Ring in 2025, completing the promotion's 34th Triple Crown.
