Alessandro Di Battista
Italian politician · Italy · Politicians · Born 1978 · age 48
Alessandro Di Battista is read about 1,080 times a day, in 11 languages.
A typical day, 30 days to 15 October 2026
The middle day of the days counted, so one week of news cannot move it. The line under it is the last 390 days, one point a day.
Something wrong? He walked away from a seat in parliament rather than back a technocrat premier - a rare move in Italian politics, where compromise usually trumps principle. Di Battista became the face of Five Star's purist wing, the one who meant it when he said no deals.

The M5S is a phase of my life that is now over, but if they were to come back into favour, it would depend on the Movement's political agenda.
You yourselves have now become victims of a certain system because you no longer have the slightest freedom to oppose financial capitalism. Why?

Born in August 1978, Di Battista joined the Five Star Movement in 2009 when it was still more street protest than institution. He rode the anti-establishment wave into the Chamber of Deputies during the XVII Legislature, speaking for voters who wanted Rome burned down and rebuilt. For over a decade he stayed inside the tent, but February 2021 drew his line: when Five Star agreed to join Mario Draghi's technocratic coalition government, he quit the party altogether. The activist who'd helped build the movement chose the exit over the room where it happened.
