About this person
Born in Trabzon in 1969, Karaismailoğlu studied mechanical engineering at Karadeniz Technical University and later earned a master's in urban systems and transportation management from Bahçeşehir University. He joined Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's transportation department in 1995, working his way from the city bus company İETT through traffic control systems to head the entire Transportation Department by 2014. After stints running Istanbul real estate for the governmental TOKI authority and serving as assistant secretary general to the mayor, he resigned in June 2019 when the opposition Republican People's Party's Ekrem İmamoğlu took office. Three months later he was named Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and in March 2020 President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan elevated him to full Minister, replacing Mehmet Cahit Turhan. He held the transport portfolio until 2023, when he won a seat in the Grand National Assembly representing Trabzon for the Justice and Development Party.
