Cousin and seventh wife of Muhammad (c. 590–641)
Muhammad's first cousin who became his seventh wife — a marriage that sparked controversy in early Islamic society and prompted revelations that changed inheritance and adoption law.
Born around 590 into the Quraysh tribe, Zaynab bint Jahsh was Muhammad's first cousin and part of the inner circle of early Islam. She became his seventh wife, a union that carried weight both familial and theological. Muslims regard her as one of the Mothers of the Believers, a title given to Muhammad's wives that conferred religious authority and respect. She died in 641, a decade after Muhammad, having lived through Islam's formative years from Mecca to Medina.
