About

Born in Tokyo in 1933, Ono moved to New York in 1952 and joined the city's experimental art circles in the early 1960s, including the Fluxus movement. In 1969 she married John Lennon and the two formed the Plastic Ono Band, staging a bed-in honeymoon protest against the Vietnam War and recording together throughout the 1970s. Their collaboration Double Fantasy topped the charts and won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1980, released three weeks before Lennon was shot outside their Dakota apartment building on December 8.
