About this person

Born 20 April 1959, Wim Hof built a career on feats most people avoid: swimming under ice, standing barefoot in snow for a half marathon, prolonged full-body submersion in freezing water. The stunts earned him Guinness World Records and the nickname "The Iceman." He packaged the techniques behind them - cold exposure, specific breathing patterns, meditation - into the Wim Hof Method, which he now teaches as a motivational speaker. Scientists have studied the method with mixed results, but the attention holds: a man who insists the cold is a choice, not a limit.
