About

Born Vivienne Swire on 8 April 1941, she was running a King's Road boutique called Sex with Malcolm McLaren when they dressed the Sex Pistols and synchronized clothing with sound, essentially costuming the 1970s UK punk scene into being. What began as an attempt to "put a spoke in the system" became a empire: she opened four London shops, then expanded across Britain and the world, selling collections that doubled as billboards for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, climate action, and civil rights.
