Born November 4, 2000, in Dallas, Tyrese Maxey was a five-star recruit who led South Garland High School to its first state tournament appearance in 2018, earning McDonald's All-American honors and Texas Mr. Basketball his senior year. He set a Kentucky school record with 26 points in his collegiate debut, then entered the 2020 NBA draft after his freshman season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 76ers took him 21st overall, and he spent his rookie year mostly on the bench - his first NBA start came only because Philadelphia could barely field a legal roster. Ben Simmons's refusal to suit up the next season opened the door, and Maxey walked through it as the new starting point guard. By his fourth season he'd won the Most Improved Player Award and earned his first All-Star selection in 2024.
