Tom Scott is read about 1,009 times a day, in 20 languages.
A typical day, 30 days to 15 October 2026
The middle day of the days counted, so one week of news cannot move it. The line under it is the last 390 days, one point a day.
Something wrong?A web developer turned YouTube educator who turned standing in odd places and explaining odd things into one of the platform's most reliable weeklies - until he walked away in 2024 to prove he could stop.

Every time we design a system, we have to minimise the potential harm. Look at the code that you write, look at the systems you design, and think: How could this be abused?
Every bit of freedom that a designer has for creativity and good is also freedom for abuse. That’s true not just on the web, but in every single aspect of the online world.
Nothing to hide" only works if the folks in power share the values of you and everyone you know entirely, and always will.

Scott surfaced as a student with a government-website parody, launched a YouTube channel in 2006, then spent years in obscurity. The turn came in 2014 with Things You Might Not Know - educational one-takes on linguistics, science, geography, history, technology - and suddenly the weekly cadence held. Series followed: Language Files, The Basics, Amazing Places. Videos on unfilmable colours and bear-proof bins drew outside press. He collaborated with other creators through Tom Scott plus and The Technical Difficulties, and co-hosted the puzzle podcast Lateral. In January 2024, after a decade of never missing a week, he stopped to work on other things. He returned in March 2026 with Tom Scott: England, unscripted and weekly again.
