Egyptian Pharaoh of the 18th dynasty
An 18th Dynasty pharaoh who ruled Egypt in the 14th century BC, part of the lineage that would later produce Akhenaten — one of antiquity's most radical religious reformers.
Thutmose IV, born of Amenhotep II and Tiaa, took the throne as eighth pharaoh of Egypt's 18th Dynasty. His royal name, Menkheperure, translated to "Established in forms is Re" — a declaration of divine order under the sun god. He governed during the 14th century BC, a period when Egyptian power stretched far beyond the Nile. His reign placed him two generations before upheaval: his grandson Akhenaten would later attempt to dismantle the polytheistic traditions Thutmose IV had upheld.
