A Merovingian king who carved his share of Francia through betrayal and blood — breaking promises to allies, conquering Thuringia with Saxon muscle, and watching his brother fall in a Burgundian ambush he'd helped provoke.
Theuderic inherited Metz in 511 when his father Clovis I died and the Frankish kingdom splintered among four sons. Early on he dispatched his own son Theudebert to kill a Scandinavian raider who'd crossed into his lands. He backed the Thuringian king Hermanfrid against a rival brother for half the kingdom, then turned on Hermanfrid in 531 when the promised territory never came — conquering Thuringia with his brother Chlothar and Saxon allies, killing Hermanfrid at the Unstrut.
