The third Ilkhan of Mongol Ilkhanate (1282–1284)
He took a Mongol empire built on conquest and tried to steer it toward Islam — a conversion that made him sultan and cost him the throne.
Ahmed Tekuder was born around 1246, a son of Hulegu, the Mongol conqueror who founded the Ilkhanate by sacking Baghdad. He grew up in the shadow of his brother Abaqa, who ruled the realm after their father. When Abaqa died in 1282, Tekuder took power and became Sultan Ahmad — the first Ilkhan to convert to Islam. His reign lasted two years. In 1284, his nephew Arghun Khan overthrew him. Tekuder was executed on 10 August that year.
