Tarkan Tevetoğlu was born in Alzey, West Germany, in 1972 and moved to Turkey at fourteen, where he took music lessons in Karamürsel and signed with İstanbul Plak. His first album, Yine Sensiz, arrived in 1992, followed by Aacayipsin in 1994, but it was 1998's Ölürüm Sana that changed the game: "Şımarık" broke out across multiple countries, helped along by its English version "Kiss Kiss", and landed him a deal with Universal. A 1999 compilation went gold and platinum across Europe, and by 2006 he released his first English-language album, Come Closer. His 2010 record Adımı Kalbine Yaz became Turkey's best-seller that year, and in 2016 he released Ahde Vefa, leaning into classical Turkish sounds. He has sold over 15 million albums, earned comparisons to Elvis from the Washington Post, and been called one of the best live performers Ahmet Ertegun ever saw.
