About this person

Joseph Olaitan Adenuga Jr. was born 19 September 1982 and came up in the grime scene alongside his younger brother Jme, briefly rolling with Roll Deep before they founded Boy Better Know in 2005. His clash with Devilman for Lord of the Mics 2 became grime legend. He spent years releasing independently - Greatest Hits in 2007, Microphone Champion in 2009, Doin' It Again in 2011 - building the sound and the audience on his own terms. In 2016, Konnichiwa landed with "That's Not Me" and "Shutdown" and took the Mercury Prize, proof that grime could command prestige without compromise. Two years later he appeared on ASAP Rocky's "Praise the Lord (Da Shine)", which became both artists' biggest single and a global hit. Ignorance Is Bliss followed in 2019, charting in fifteen countries, and Insomnia with Chip and Young Adz in 2020 gave him a third UK top 10 album. Debrett's put him on the 2017 list of the UK's most influential people, and in 2018 he received a Nigerian chieftaincy with the title Amuludun of Odo-Aje.
