Something wrong?Robert Whittaker broke the Australian ceiling in mixed martial arts - the first fighter from the country to hold a UFC belt, claimed at middleweight in 2017. He sits now at light heavyweight, ranked but no longer champion, the kind of name that still moves a card.

About this person
Whittaker turned professional in 2009 and surfaced on The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, where he won the welterweight tournament in the show's first series. The real ascent came at UFC 213, when he took the interim middleweight title and rose to undisputed champion later that year after Georges St-Pierre vacated. Born 20 December 1990, he carried that belt as the first Australian to do so in the organization. By August 2026 he'd moved up a weight class, ranked #12 at light heavyweight - still in the fight, no longer at the top, but the name that opened the door stays on the board.
