Ramesses VI Nebmaatre-Meryamun was a son of Ramesses III who spent his youth as a prince-scribe and cavalry officer before taking the throne after his nephew Ramesses V died. In his first two years he put down Libyan raids in Upper Egypt, then buried his predecessor in an unmarked grave and commandeered the dead man's tomb in the Valley of the Kings — KV9 — expanding and redecorating it for himself.
