Meditate upon the Knowledge and Bliss Eternal, and you will also have bliss. The Bliss indeed is eternal, only it is covered and obscured by ignorance.
Those who wish to attain God and progress in religious devotion, should particularly guard themselves against the snares of lust and wealth.

Born Gadadhar Chattopadhyay in Kamarpukur, Bengal Presidency, he reported religious experiences from childhood. Around twenty he took a post as priest at the Dakshineshwar Kali Temple, where his devotion to the goddess Kali sparked a series of spiritual visions that other teachers vouched for as genuine. Married to Sarada Devi in 1859 in a union never consummated, he studied under multiple gurus across Vaishnavism, Tantric Shaktism, Advaita Vedanta, Christianity, and Islam, receiving sannyasa initiation in 1865 from the monk Tota Puri. He drew social elites and ordinary visitors alike, reluctant at first to teach but eventually training disciples and founding the Ramakrishna Order around the idea that direct experience trumps scripture. Throat cancer killed him on the night of 15 August 1886; his chief disciple Swami Vivekananda then exported the teaching to India and the West.
