She's 21, first in line to the Norwegian throne, and the living proof of a 1990 law that put daughters ahead of sons - making her the first woman who will inherit Norway's crown by right of birth order alone.

About this person

Born 21 January 2004, Ingrid Alexandra is the elder child of King Haakon VIII and the second child of Queen Mette-Marit. She has a younger brother, Prince Sverre Magnus, but she ranks above him in succession - a reversal that traces to 1990, when Norway adopted absolute primogeniture and erased the old male-preference rule. She is a grandchild of King Harald V and Queen Sonja, fifth generation of the House of Glücksburg on Norwegian soil. The law changed before she was born; the throne will be hers because she arrived first.
