Pope of the Catholic Church
Theophylact of Tusculum held the papal throne three separate times between 1032 and 1048, possibly making him history's youngest pope at around 20. He remains the only pontiff to serve multiple non-consecutive terms and the sole one accused of literally selling the job.
Pope Benedict IX, born Theophylact of Tusculum in Rome, was the bishop of Rome and ruler of the Papal States for three periods between October 1032 and July 1048. Aged about 20 when first elected, he may have been the youngest pope in the history of the Catholic Church. He is the only person to have been pope more than once and the only person ever accused of selling the papacy.
