Philippe Etchebest was born 2 December 1966. He earned two Michelin stars at the Hostellerie de Plaisance in Saint-Émilion, joining the thin ranks of French chefs the guide trusts with that mark. Then television found him. He became a fixture on Top Chef and Objectif Top Chef, but the role that stuck was Cauchemar en cuisine - the French version of Kitchen Nightmares - where he plays the same brutal-savior part Gordon Ramsay wrote, only in his own language and for his own country's viewers. The dining rooms change, the problems repeat, and Etchebest keeps showing up.
