Pavel Cherenkov

Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov was born on 28 July 1904 in Soviet Russia. Working as a physicist, he observed a peculiar blue light emission that occurred under specific conditions involving charged particles and transparent media. The discovery proved significant enough that Ilya Frank and Igor Tamm developed the theoretical framework to explain it. In 1958, the three shared the Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery and interpretation of what became known as the Cherenkov effect.
