Concubine of Orhan Gazi
She was the first enslaved Christian woman to bear an Ottoman sultan's heir — a pattern that would shape the empire's succession for centuries.
Nilüfer Hatun was a consort of Orhan, the second Ottoman sultan. Born Christian, she entered the Ottoman court as a slave. She bore Murad I, who would succeed his father as the third sultan. Her death came around 1363 or 1380. The line she established — sons of the sultan born to women of slave origin — became the template for Ottoman royal succession long after she was gone.
