About

Born in 1901 to a prominent Catholic family in French colonial Vietnam, Ngô Đình Diệm rose quickly through the imperial court, becoming interior minister in 1933 before resigning after three months and publicly denouncing Emperor Bảo Đại as a French puppet. He spent years in exile across Japan, the United States, and Europe, developing his Person Dignity Theory — a blend of French Personalism and Confucianism — before returning in July 1954 to accept appointment as prime minister.
