About this person
Nazli Sabri was born in June 1894 into a world where Egypt was still under British occupation and Ottoman suzerainty. In 1919, the same year Egypt declared itself a kingdom, she became the second wife of King Fuad I and stepped into the role of queen consort - a position that had never existed in Egypt's modern history. She held the title until 1936, spanning the turbulent early decades of the Egyptian monarchy. She outlived the kingdom itself by more than two decades, dying in May 1978.
