Merneptah

Merneptah was the thirteenth son of Ramesses II, ascending to the throne on 13 August 1213 BCE only because every older brother, including his full brother Khaemweset, had already died. He was around fifty years old at his coronation, the first royal-born pharaoh since Tutankhamun. He ruled Egypt for almost ten years under the throne name Ba-en-re Mery-netjeru — "Soul of Ra, Beloved of the Gods" — until his death on 2 May 1203 BCE. The Merneptah Stele, erected during his reign, contains the earliest known reference to the name Israel in any surviving text.
