Biography
About
Maximilian III of Austria was born on 12 October 1558 into the House of Habsburg. He made a bid for the Polish throne but failed to win election, then launched the War of the Polish Succession to press his claim anyway. Sigismund III Vasa defeated him, and Maximilian's Polish ambitions ended there. He served as Grand Master of the Teutonic Order and became Archduke of Further Austria in 1612, a position he held until his death on 2 November 1618.
