Jerusalema’ is an African song through and through.
When I started out, all I wanted was for people to listen to my music because they enjoyed it.
I remember that I was in a place where there was a lot of negativity going around. So I wanted to create something that would keep me going, with a lot of soul and spirituality.

Kgaogelo Moagi was born in Tzaneen on 31 January 1996 and came up playing what he calls Bolobedu dance, a regional strain of house music most people outside Limpopo had never heard. His 2018 debut Skeleton Move won an AFRIMA Award for Best Artist/Group in the African Electro category and marked him as the style's pioneer. Two years later he released Jerusalema, the album, and its title single - a piano-led house track featuring Nomcebo Zikode, later remixed with Burna Boy - became an international phenomenon: it went diamond in France, topped Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart, and soundtracked millions of lockdown dance videos. The song turned a Tzaneen bedroom producer into one of the continent's most-streamed acts.
