Mac DeMarco is read about 1,098 times a day, in 34 languages.
A typical day, 30 days to 21 October 2026
The middle day of the days counted, so one week of news cannot move it. The line under it is the last 396 days, one point a day.
Something wrong? The slacker-rock prince who coined "jizz jazz" to describe his own sound, DeMarco turned bedroom recordings under the name Makeout Videotape into a six-album career that made lo-fi warble and gap-toothed charm a 2010s indie template.

Born Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV in 1990, he spent 2009 to 2010 releasing music as Makeout Videotape on Bandcamp before moving from Vancouver to Montreal in 2011 and shedding the pseudonym. By early 2012 he'd signed to Captured Tracks and put out the mini-album Rock and Roll Night Club - first as a 100-cassette run on Green Burrito Records, then on vinyl - and that year dropped his debut full-length, 2. What followed was a string of albums that leaned into what critics called "blue wave" and what he called "jizz jazz": Salad Days in 2014, This Old Dog in 2017, Here Comes the Cowboy in 2019, the mini-album Another One in 2015, and the 2023 compilation One Wayne G alongside Five Easy Hot Dogs. In 2018 he launched Mac's Record Label, and in 2025 released Guitar, his sixth studio album.
