Lisa Su was born in Taiwan in 1969 and came to the United States as a young child. She earned three degrees from MIT, then moved through Texas Instruments, IBM, and Freescale Semiconductor, developing silicon-on-insulator manufacturing and more efficient chips as a vice president at IBM's Semiconductor Research and Development Center. She joined AMD in 2012, holding roles including senior vice president and COO before being named president and CEO in October 2014. Under her leadership, AMD's market cap grew from around $3 billion to over $700 billion, overtaking Intel for the first time. She became the first woman named Time's CEO of the year in 2014 and won it again in 2024, the first woman to receive the IEEE Robert Noyce Medal in 2021, and was named one of the "Architects of AI" for Time's 2025 Person of the Year.
