Born in 1960, Sutter cut his teeth writing and directing on The Shield, where he also played hitman Margos Dezerian. He spent time embedded with an outlaw motorcycle club in Northern California, research that became Sons of Anarchy - the series he created, wrote, produced, and directed for FX. On screen he played Otto Delaney, an incarcerated club member; off screen he cast his wife, Katey Sagal, as lead character Gemma Teller. The franchise expanded into Mayans M.C., a spinoff that extended his grip on FX's darkest hour.
