Kurt Donald Cobain was born February 20, 1967, and by 1990 had assembled Nirvana's final lineup with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. They signed with DGC and released Nevermind in 1991; "Smells Like Teen Spirit" made them inescapable, followed by "Come as You Are," "Lithium," "In Bloom," "Heart-Shaped Box," and "All Apologies." He was called the voice of Generation X and he hated it. His final years were heroin, stomach pain, chronic depression, and a marriage to Courtney Love that kept him in tabloids; they had a daughter, Frances.
