A right-handed pitcher who turned command into art: through 2017, Koji Uehara posted the best strikeout-to-walk ratio in MLB history for any player with at least 100 innings pitched, punching out batters at nearly eleven per nine while issuing walks at barely more than one.

About this person
Born April 3, 1975, Uehara came up with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan before crossing to the majors with Baltimore, then Texas, then Boston. The precision sharpened: by 2013 he was closing for the Red Sox, won ALCS MVP, and recorded the final out of the World Series against St. Louis. That ring made him one of sixteen players ever to win both a World Series and a World Baseball Classic. He finished his career with the Cubs, the walk rate still microscopic, the ratio still untouched.
