About this person
Katerina Vladimirovna Gordeeva was born 23 March 1977 and came up through NTV Documentary films, where she worked from 2003 until 2012. In 2005 she released her first documentary, Ruble's Wives, and began directing her own films - a shift that let her choose the frame. The subjects she returned to were health, family, social issues: the texture of ordinary struggle in a country that preferred triumph narratives. Over the years she built a body of work that functioned less as reportage than as record, each film a small act of attention paid where attention was scarce.
