About
Johann Josef Wenzel Anton Franz Karl, Graf Radetzky von Radetz was born into Czech nobility on 2 November 1766. He rose through Habsburg military ranks to become chief of the general staff during the later Napoleonic Wars, helping architect the Trachenberg Plan and the Leipzig Campaign that culminated in the decisive Battle of Leipzig. Afterward he overhauled the Austrian army's structure and earned the nickname "Vater Radetzky" from his soldiers.
