About
Born into the Forbes family in Colorado in 1943, Kerry enlisted in the Naval Reserve after Yale and commanded a Swift Boat in Vietnam, earning three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, and a Bronze Star. He came home and flipped: testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in the Fulbright Hearings, he called U.S. policy in Vietnam a cause of war crimes, becoming a national face of Vietnam Veterans Against the War. After a failed 1972 House run and a stretch in law, he was elected Massachusetts lieutenant governor in 1982, then won a Senate seat in 1984. He held it for 28 years, securin…
