Jagadish Vasudev was born on 3 September 1957 and began teaching yoga in 1982. A decade later he founded the Isha Foundation, which grew into an ashram and yoga centre running educational and spiritual programs out of Coimbatore. His books - Inner Engineering: A Yogi's Guide to Joy and Karma: A Yogi's Guide to Crafting Your Destiny - both hit the New York Times bestseller list, and he became a regular at international forums. Alongside the spiritual work he launched environmental campaigns: Project GreenHands, Rally for Rivers, Cauvery Calling, and the Journey to Save Soil. In 2017 the Indian government awarded him the Padma Vibhushan for contributions to spirituality and humanitarian services. The criticism has tracked him too, focused on pseudoscientific claims laced into the teaching.
