About this person

Born 6 May 1976, Ben-Gvir's political roots lie in Kahanism, the violently racist movement advocating Palestinian expulsion. He racked up dozens of indictments and at least eight convictions, including incitement to racism and possessing propaganda for the terrorist organization Kach. As a lawyer he defended Jews accused of extremist terrorism; as a settler in the occupied West Bank he kept a portrait of mass murderer Baruch Goldstein in his living room. In 2019 he called for expelling disloyal Arab citizens; in 2021 he helped ignite violent clashes in Sheikh Jarrah. His far-right Otzma Yehudit party won six seats in 2022, placing him in the cabinet. He resigned in January 2025 over a Gaza ceasefire deal, then returned two months later when Israeli airstrikes resumed.
