French queen consort (1247-1271)
She wore the crown of France for barely a year. Isabella of Aragon married into the Capetian dynasty at the height of its power, became queen when her husband Philip III inherited the throne in 1270, and was dead by twenty-four.
Born around 1247, Isabella was a daughter of the House of Aragon. Her marriage to Philip III bound two of medieval Europe's great royal lines. When Philip's father Louis IX died in 1270, she rose from princess to Queen of France. The reign she shared lasted only months. She died on 28 January 1271, still in her early twenties, leaving Philip to rule without her.
