Ian David McShane was born 29 September 1942 and started in British films like The Wild and the Willing in 1962. The BBC's Lovejoy made him a fixture from 1986 through 1994—a roguish antiques dealer working the margins. Then Deadwood arrived in 2004, and as Al Swearengen he won a Golden Globe and became the filthy-mouthed centre of prestige television.
