Bollea trained in Florida in 1977 and joined the WWF in 1983, where his all-American hero act drove the 1980s wrestling boom - he headlined eight of the first nine WrestleManias and held the WWF Championship for 1,474 days. In 1994 he jumped to WCW and reinvented himself as Hollywood Hogan, leading the New World Order faction through the Monday Night War before returning to WWE in 2002 for a sixth title reign. He admitted to steroid use dating to 1976 and testified against wrestler unionization in 1994, but the real fracture came in 2012 when Gawker published a sex tape in which he used racial slurs and admitted to racism. He won the lawsuit and bankrupted the outlet, but the tape stayed heard. He died in July 2025, inducted three times into the WWE Hall of Fame and argued over to the end.
