She was the Disney Channel's first crossover blueprint - Lizzie McGuire made her a teen idol at fourteen, and she turned that into a multi-platinum music career, a spot on Forbes' Celebrity 100, and eventually a template every young Disney star since has followed.

My sister and I really showed an interest in [performing] and dedication, and [our mother] was like, 'How can I tell my kids no?' It's the same as kids that are going into sports.

...I want the songs I sing to reflect that [I am a regular 16 year old]. Basically, I'm not Lizzie McGuire anymore.

About this person
Hilary Erhard Duff was born September 28, 1987, and started acting young enough that by 2001 she was the title character in Lizzie McGuire, the Disney Channel series that made her name. The 2003 movie version cemented it, and she rode that momentum into a string of mainstream films - Cheaper by the Dozen, A Cinderella Story, Agent Cody Banks - while launching a parallel music career in 2002. Her second album, Metamorphosis, hit number one on the Billboard 200 in 2003 and went four-times platinum; she sold an estimated 15 million records worldwide and landed on the Celebrity 100 list four years running. After a stretch of indie work and a quieter period, she returned to television with Younger (2015-2021), TV Land's longest-running original, then produced and starred in How I Met Your Father through 2023. In 2026, Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world, the same year she released her sixth album on Atlantic Records.
