King of Chalcis (Syria) from Herodian dynasty (28-100)
The last Herod to hold power, who chose Rome over his own people when the revolt came — then watched from the Roman camp as Jerusalem burned.
Born around AD 27 or 28 as Marcus Julius Agrippa, he inherited the final scraps of the Herodian dynasty, ruling territories outside Judea as a client of Rome. In 66, as Jewish rebellion ignited in Jerusalem, he fled the city rather than face the uprising. He threw his support behind Rome in the First Jewish–Roman War, aligning with the empire that would ultimately crush his people. He outlived the dynasty, dying sometime around 92 or 100, the line ending with him.
