Nivaldo Batista Lima started at seven in a family trio called Remelexo, moved through a duo, then went solo in 2009 with a debut that got "Rosas, Versos e Vinhos" onto regional charts. His first live album in 2010 produced three hits, but it was "Balada" in 2011 that broke him wide - number three in Brazil, platinum certification, and unlikely traction across Europe and the U.S. He followed with "Gatinha Assanhada" in 2012, an album that moved 200,000 copies, then a 2016 live set that sent three songs to number one on the Brasil Hot 100 Airplay. By 2017 and 2018, "Apelido Carinhoso" and "Zé da Recaída" both topped the same chart, giving him six number ones and a lock on Brazil's sertanejo mainstream.
