Giovanni Maria Versace grew up in Reggio di Calabria, where the place itself shaped what he would become. He founded Versace and built it into an international luxury house — clothes, accessories, fragres, home furnishings — and designed costumes for theatre and film. He was among the first to fuse fashion with the music world, pulling Princess Diana, Madonna, Elton John, Tupac Shakur, Eric Clapton, Whitney Houston, and a rotating cast of supermodels into his orbit.
