François Chollet was born on 20 October 1989 in France and became a software engineer drawn to the mechanics of artificial intelligence. In 2015 he released Keras, a deep-learning library that abstracted away the friction of building neural networks and quickly became a standard tool. Google hired him as a Senior Staff Engineer, where his research turned from implementation to first principles: computer vision, applying machine learning to formal reasoning, and the problem of abstraction. He's now focused on what generality really means in AI - how to move past pattern-matching toward something closer to understanding.
