King of the Two Sicilies (1777-1830)
A Bourbon king who ruled the Two Sicilies for five years and spent eight before that as regent of Sicily — a placeholder reign bookended by longer spans of waiting and transition.
Born Francesco Gennaro Giuseppe Saverio Giovanni Battista on 19 August 1777, he stepped into power as regent of the Kingdom of Sicily in 1806, holding that role through the Napoleonic wars until 1814. Eleven years later, in 1825, he became King of the Two Sicilies. His reign lasted five years. He died on 8 November 1830.
